Benjamin Dawe was born in Warbleton, Sussex, England.

Birth

Benjamin Owen Dawe was born in Warbleton close to Ashburnham, Sussex, England in October 1849[1]. Note the miss spelling of DAWE as DAW[2]. Benjamin Owen was the son of Benjamine Dawe and Hester Bradford.

In the 1851 Census[3] Benjamin Owen (age 1) was the son in the household of Benjamin Dawe (age 50) and Hester Bradford (age 47) at Ashburnham, Sussex, England. His siblings present were: Amos (age 19); Simeon (age 13) and Orpah (6).

Marriage

Benjamin Owen (age 23) married[4][5] Caroline Reed (age 20) on 27 October 1872 at St John's Church, Bodle Street Green, Sussex, England. Note that their is confusion between Caroline and Catherine here. Caroline Reed appears to have changed her name to Catherine on marriage.

In the 1881 Census[6] Benjamin Owen Dawe is recorded working as a 'Miller' resident at Tenworth Cottages, Maidstone, Kent, England. There are no other folk recorded as present at the time.

In the 1891 Census[7] Benjamin Owen Dawe is Head of House (age 41 - Occupation: Miller) and living at Cecil Square, Margate, Kent, England with his wife Catherine (age 38) and children: Joseph Arthur Dawe (age 13) and Alice Beatrice (age 11).

In the England 1901 Census[8] Benjamine Owen (age 51) is working as a Miller and living with his wife Catherine (age 48)) and their son Frederick (age 14) in Margate.

In the 1911 Census[9] is recorded as a 'Widowed flour miller' resident at Hammersmith, London, England. His children Joseph Arthur Dawe (age 33) and Frederick Benjamin Owen Dawe (age 23) are with him.

In 1915 Benjamine is mentioned in Army[10] records of his son Joseph Arthur.

In 1919 he is on the Electoral Roll[11] at East Grinstead, Sussex

In the 1921 England Census[12] Benjamin Owen is 71 and a widower. His occupation had been a Flower Miller employed by the Natural Food Company. He was living at 36, Richmond Road in Hammersmith with his son Frederick Benjamin Owen (age 35) who was working as a fitter and upholsterer for the company Waring and Gillone.

Death

Benjamin Owen Dawe died on 18 Mar 1924[13] in Fulham. His Will is read on 17 September 2018 in Middlesex[14].
