- This William is not the William Dow / Daw whose death is recorded in Chicago in 1910 (parents John DOW and Mary FIELD). That chap was born Middleton Yorkshire in 1831 and married Jane FIELD, emigrating to Ontario Canada around 1856/7/8 and on to Illinois about 1882. He is with son Frank Doe (birth registered Driffield Yorkshire as Does) in Chicago in 1910, with wife and family in Ontario in 1881, future wife Jane in 1851 (Driffield, Middleton, Yorkshire, and with presumed mother in 1841 (Middleton, Yorkshire), so cannot be this William, born a few years prior at the other end of the country. - Which above explains away why many trees show mother Mary as surname FIELD not FRIEND.
