Biography

Nina Mary was born in 1876. She was the daughter of John Henry Davidson and Alice Julia Ann Smyth.
She died of accidental drowning in 1906. She was buried in Lymm, Cheshire, but is also commemorated on her parents and grandparents grave in Dean Cemetery, Edinburgh.

The report of the event in Illustrated Police News - Saturday 20 January 1906, was:
"For heaven's sake don’t come in," exclaimed Miss Nina Mary Davidson, daughter of Mr. John Henry Davidson, of Muir House, Edinburgh, who was drowning in a large lake adjoining the residence of Mr. George Littleton Dewhurst, last year's High Sheriff of Cheshire, at Lymm, a pretty Cheshire village.
The words were addressed to George Dewhurst, aged fourteen, who held out his stick to Miss Davidson, who was desperately struggling for her life. But she would not clutch it, presumably preferring to sacrifice her life than to risk pulling in the boy.
Dewhurst ran with all haste for help, but assistance came too late. Miss Davidson, who was twenty-five yeans of age, had sunk.
The couple had gone out duck shooting, and young Dewhurst brought down duck, his retriever going into the water to fetch it. The bank was steep and the dog could not land with its prey, so Miss Davidson was going down to give a kindly lift when the earth gave way and precipitated her into the water.
The inquest the jury returned a verdict of "Accidental death."
