Biography

Wesley was the son of George Clinton and Hassie Simpson

On July 8, 1944, while fighting on Saipan, Wesley was a member of a squad of men who volunteered to investigate some caves known to house civilians and perhaps enemy soldiers as well. The squad successfully searched out two or three caves when another was located which appeared to contain enemy soldiers. The squad leader crawled to the cave, discovered a soldier who ran out the back and then told Wesley to creep back down the trail. The enemy soldier fired upon the squad leader wounding him in the arm. Wesley was also shot and fatally wounded.
