Biography
This profile is part of the Clezie Name Study.
Note: Spelling varied wildly before the 20th century. Anyone searching for ancestors in this family should consider alternative spellings: Clazey, Clazie, Clazy, Clezie, Clezy. The name has even been found as Clacey, Clacy, Claisye, Claise, Clasey, Clasie, Cleasie, Clisy, Clize, Clizzee.
A church record at Coldstream on 16 Jan 1753 says:
"George Claizy in Lithtillum had his son William baptized who was born the 10th instant."
Spelling of the surname has varied widely: Claise, Clasie, Clacy, Clacey, Clasey, Clazey, Clazie, Clazy, Clezie, Clezy and now Claizy.
William's parents were George Claisye and Agnes Middlemist. William apparently passed away before 1756. No direct evidence has been found but these parents had another son, also called William, baptized at Coldstream on 11 Nov 1756. [1]
