Description:
George Brock Chisholm (1828-1884) was the son of Eliza McCarter (1796-1851) and George Chisholm (1792-1872). He was an expert Mariner, and was captain of many sailing vessels, including the "White Oak" schooner, built for him his brother, Duncan Chisholm, which was launched on the first Dominion Day in 1867. He also captained the "Coquette," built for him by Melancthon Simpson.
He was killed aboard the Coquette in Stokes Bay, Bruce Peninsula, in an accident when something fell from the masthead. The Coquette, carrying his body, was brought back to Oakville the following spring by family members and a hired hand. He is buried in Oakville Cemetery. He married twice, first to Annie Young Arnott (1836-1880), with whom he had one daughter:
Christina Kate "Kate" Chisholm (1857-1942).
His second wife was Mary Hammill Williams (1835-1915) with whom he had five children:
Frank Herbert Chisholm (1863-1925)
George Murray Chisholm (1867-1942)
Annie Arnott Chisholm (1869-1936)
Mary Williams "Molly" Chisholm Dill (1869-1939) and
Emily Amanda Chisholm (1873-1943).
