William Campion KCMG DSO is Notable.

William Robert Campion was born on the 3 July 1870, the son of William Henry Campion and Gertrude Brand (second daughter of Henry Bouverie William Brand, 1st Viscount Hampden and Baron Dacre of Gillesland), his birth being registered in the 3rd Quarter at St. George Hanover Square.[1][2]
William was baptised on the 27th July 1870, at St Simon Zelotes, Chelsea.[3]

William Robert Campion "distinguished himself in the armed forces, serving in World War I as Lieutenant-Colonel in the 4th batallion Royal Sussex Regiment and being awarded the D.S.O. At home he was a justice of the peace, and deputy lieutenant for Sussex. His term of office as Member of Parliament for the Lewes Division of Sussex between 1910 and 1924, was followed by his appointment as Governor of Western Australia in which he continued until 1931".[4]

William's command of the 4th Battalion had him serving on the Gallipoli Peninsula; afterwards commanding the 15th Battalion, Royal Fusiliers, in France, then transferring to the 6th Bedford Regiment. In addition to being awarded the DSO, he was also Mentioned in Despatches three times. William also served with the army of occupation in Germany, after having returned to the Royal Sussex Regiment.

William Robert Campion passed away on the 2 January 1951, in Hassocks, Sussex, England, aged80 years, his death being registered in the 1st Quarter at Cuckfield.[5]
