Thomas was born about 13 May 1865 at Reed St, Oamaru. He was the son of John Walker Buick and Margaret Petrie. [1] [2] [3]
He was educated at the Oamaru State School. [3]
He was elected to Parliament in 1890 for the Wairau electorate, and was the whip for the 1893 administration of R. J. Seddon. [3]
In 1891 he married Mary Fitzgerald. [4]
He later took up journalism in Manawatu, and was on the Marlborough Education Board and Napier High School Board; and published many books on New Zealand's early history. He was honoured by the King in 1933 with the C.M.G. title. [3]
He passed away in 1938 leaving a widow and no children. [3] [5]
