Biography

Matthew Brodie, son of Thomaas Brodie and Jean Gray was baptised on 29 December 1798 in the parish of Kelso, Roxburghshire.^[1]

Matthew married Margaret Smith in Kelso on 23 April 1823^[2]

The couple had at least eight children baptised in Kelso:

Matthew was a mason in Kelso who also became a spirit dealer.^[11][12]

Matthew then moved to Edinburgh where he appears to have married Jane Lilly in the parish of St Cuthberts on 15 June 1854^[13][14]

Matthew died on 28 October 1864 in the St George district of Edinburgh, aged 64.^[15] He died in Horne Lane, Stockbridge, Midlothian
