Biography

Susannah was born in Monkwearmouth, County Durham, England in about 1837. She was baptised on 5 May 1837 in Monkwearmouth, Durham, England, the daughter of Jane Brodrick.^[1]

In the 1841 census Susannah was in Strand, Monkwearmouth, Durham, England.^[2]

In the 1861 census Susanna (age 23), House Servant, was the unmarried servant of William Cole at 19 Nesham Square, Sunderland, East Sunderland, Durham, England.^[3]

Susannah's marriage to John Turnbull was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1862 in the Sunderland district.^[4] In the 1871 census Susannah was in Monkwearmouth, Durham, England.^[5] In the 1881 census John was in Boldon, Durham, England.^[6][7]

Susanna married James Ford in Sunderland in the last quarter of 1890.^[8] In the 1891 census they were listed as James and Susan Farn (looks like 'Forn' on original image Humphrey-6461 21:28, 12 October 2021 (UTC)), living in Monkwearmouth with their two daughters Isabella Turnbull and Lillie Jane Turnbull.^[9]

Younger son Andrew was in the Moor Orphan Asylum in Sunderland, which provided an education for male orphans of seafarers.^[10]

Notes
