Biography
Leslie was son of Peter Birtles and Hannah Dowie.
He worked as a farm labourer at Enfield in the Oamaru area.
Leslie married on Christmas Eve in 1938 to Constance Marjorie Campbell.
He was employed as a tractor driver at the time his name was drawn in WWll ballot in the early months of 1942. His rank - Gunner, serial number 562866. Leslie embarked in 1942 with the NZEF , 18 FD Regiment.
Post war, he lived in Oamaru working as a labourer and later employed by the railways.
In 1991, Leslie passed away age 80 and is buried at Oamaru Lawn cemetery. RSA CIRCLE 5 PLOT 17. Do you have information about Birtles? Please contribute to his biography. Everything on WikiTree is a collaborative work-in-progress.
