Biography

Eliza Martha (Bennewith) Crouch migrated from England to New Zealand.

Eliza Martha was born about 1856 or 1857. at Stepney, London. She was the daughter of Henry Frederick Bennewith and Rebecca Hemstead. ^{[1] [2]}

The family emigrated to Otago New Zealand aboard the Buckinghamshire on about 7 March 1874, arriving May 1874. The passengers were recorded as: Henry (30), Rebecca (47), William (19), Eliza (16), Louisa (13). ^[3]

On 25 December 1874 in New Zealand, she married Robert Pitt Crouch. ^[4]

In 1890, a notice was published in the South Canterbury Times from her sister Mrs. Pain who had not heard from her for 12 years; describing the ship as having left the "East India docks" (this is in London) on 4 March 1874. ^[5]

From 1894-1911 she lived at Test Street, Oamaru. ^[6]

She passed away 28 August 1915 age 59 and is buried at Oamaru Cemetery. ^{[7] [8] [9]}
