Biography
Martha was born in 1872[1]. She was the daughter of Joseph Belfit and Johanna Reardon.
At the age of 2 Martha emigrated with her parents and siblings from England to New Zealand on board the Ship Golden Sea; Sailed London 29th January 1874 - arrived Wellington 1st May 1874.[2]
The family settled in Feilding in the Manawatu.
Martha married John Patterson MacKay in 1905.
They had at least two children;
- Matthew George Reay (b. 1906, d. 1984)
- Ian Belfit (b. 1907, d. 1912)
Her husband passed away in January 1912, and just nine months later her son Ian passed away at the age of 5.
She passed away in 1960 at the age of about 88 and was buried on 21 April 1960 at Feilding Cemetery, Feilding, Manawatu, New Zealand[3]. Sub/Block: 2, Row: 104, Plot Number: 87
