Biography
Robert was born in 1862, his birth being registered in the 3rd quarter of that year[1]. He was the son of Joseph Belfit and Johanna Reardon.
At the age of 12 Robert emigrated from England to New Zealand with his parents and seven siblings on the ship Golden Sea. They sailed from London on 29th January 1874 and arrived into Wellington on 1st May 1874.[2]
The family settled in Feilding in the Manawatu.
He married Louisa Elizabeth Smith in 1882.
They had two children. His wife Louisa passed away in 1908.
He married, secondly, Jane Mary Taylor in 1909.
Sadly his son Private George Belfit died in 1919.
Robert passed away in 1927 and was buried on 24 October 1927 at Feilding Cemetery, Feilding, Manawatu, New Zealand[3]. Sub/Block: 2, Row: 109, Plot Number: 011
