John Barriball lived in Waiuku, Auckland, New Zealand.

John Barriball was born in Cornwall, England and the 1841 Census shows him aged about 4 in North Tamerton with his parents Ann and Charles Barriball. He had been baptised on 21 August 1836 and based on this his estimated birth year is about 1836.

The family emigrated to New Zealand while he was still a young boy, and they arrived in Auckland in 1843 when he was about 6 or 7 years old on board the Westminster which had departed Plymouth in December 1842.

His father, Charles, had land granted through the Crown Land grant and they moved to the Waiuku area where his father took up farming in the new settlement.

John married Delia Bridget Fewry, who came from Ireland, in 1856. The Wesley Historical Society makes note of the following:

"On 15 July 1856 just four months after Charles and Ann Barriball's youngest son was born, the Rev. Joseph Fletcher officiated at the marriage of their eldest son, John, to Delia Bridget Fewry, who had arrived in New Zealand from Ireland, via Australia, earlier in that same year. Delia had been baptized into the Roman Catholic faith, and the wedding ceremony was held at the home of the bridegroom's parents in Eden Grove, rather than in the Chapel. By June 1857, John would have been almost twenty one years of age." [1]

Delia passed away in 1903.

John Barriball died on 10 February 1922 and is buried in Waiuku Cemetery. He was about 86 years old when he died and is buried along with his wife Delia. Reverend W J Griffin took the funeral service at the Wesley Church and at Waiuku Cemetery.

Barriball-42 and Barriball-38 appear to represent the same person because: Hi, the Barriball-38 is a match to Barriball-42 - parents Charles and Ann Barriball who arrived in NZ with John in 1843. John married Delia and is buried in Waiuku Cemetery (where I have sighted the headstone several times as I live near there) where his wife is also interred.
