Biography

Sarah (Baigent) Davies lived in Nelson, Nelson, New Zealand.

Sarah was born about 1848, according to her Marriage Certificate to Hugh Davies on June 27, 1890.. Sarah was the child of Edward Baigent and Mary Ann Hern. Ancestry user Earl Hart posted Sarah's birth as 18 July 1847 in Nelson, New Zealand on www.ancestry.com in 2015, however a source for this information is not noted.

Sarah Baigent married Charles Gibbs at St Johns Church, Wakefield in Nelson on 17 June 1869. Sarah had several children while married to Charles. Her husband, who had a Millinery, Haberdashery and Dressmaking business in Auckland, and also in Kapanga, Coromandel. An Advertisement in The Coromandel Mail on Feb 20, 1873 runs Charles Gibbs Draper, Clothier, and General Provision Dealer Kapanga Store, Beach

Charles died in 1889. Following his death the business was advertised to be sold.

IN THE ESTATE OF CHARLES GIBBS, DECEASED. FOR SALE the Millinery, Haberdashery and Dressmaking Business now carried on at Paris House, Hobson-street, as a going concern. Particulars on the promises or of W. R. FRANKLIN, Coombes Arcade, Queen street, Auckland, Solicitor for the Executrix. Sarah Gibbs remarried in 1890 at the age of about 42. Her new husband was Hugh Davies. (see Marriage registration no. 1890/889).

Sarah Davies died on 3 August 1911.

Hugh and Sarah are buried together at Buffalo Cemetery, Coromandel in Plot 72.

Their daughter and son-in-law (William & Olive Pringle) lie in adjacent Plot 71.
