Biography

Dorothy Ashfield is the daughter of:

  • Robert Ashfield, esq. of Stowlangtoft, Suffolk, son of Robert Ashfield of Stowlangtoft and Alice (d. 21 Jan 1546), dau. of Sir Thomas Jermyn of Rushbrooke.[1]
  • Frances Spring (living 10 Oct 1547; d. 1612) , dau. of Robert Spring, esq. of Lavenham, Suffolk (1502–1550).[1]

End of Life

Richard Ogle was heavily in debt and tossed into Fleet Prison, where he eventually died. Dorothy, left in ruins, suffered a mental break and attempted suicide. Luckily, her friend Sir Simonds D' Ewes provided intervention. He later documented the episode in a memoir.[3]
