Death of Mr. Robert Anderson.
A telegram from Sydney on Thursday morning brought the sad intelligence of the death of one of the oldest, best known, and most highly respected and beloved landmarks of this district in the person of Mr. Robert Anderson, J.P., of "Lake View," Bergalia. About 6 months ago Mr. Anderson, who had not enjoyed the best of health for some time previously, with his wife and daughter left Moruya for a trip to the Old Country, being tendered a farewell by a number of his most intimate friends and admirers on the eve of his departure. The trip to and sojourn in the land of his nativity was a fairly enjoyable one, considering our friend's impaired state of health, but on his return voyage and when nearing the Australian shores Mr. Anderson was more severely attacked by his old complaint — bronchitis. On arriving in Melbourne a wire was dispatched to his son, R. J. Anderson, Bergalia, conveying the intelligence of his father's illness and requesting his son to meet him in Sydney on the arrival of the boat on Saturday last. Immediately after arrival the patient was taken to a private hospital, where he gradually sank and breathed his last on Thursday morning. Mr. Anderson came to Australia when comparatively a young man, and after a few years be came manager of the Bergalia Estate, which he successfully worked up to the time he went to reside on his private property, 'Lake View.'

Mr. Anderson had much of the Irish character, being warm hearted, staunch in his friend ships and determined in any under taking in which he embarked, whether of a private or public nature, his motto being 'no surrender.' In any public matter in which he interested himself Mr. Anderson was a tower of strength. He was the father of the Moruya Agricultural and Pastoral Society, of which he was made a life member about two years ago, and Chairman of the Public School and Stock Boards and Licensing Court. In shipping matters he took a keen interest, being manager of the Coomonderry s.s. Company, which was floated almost solely by his individual exertions, and which for some time prior to his leaving the Stale was exclusively his own property.

The remains were brought from Sydney by the Coomonderry, with flags half mast high, yesterday and interred in the Presbyterian portion of the Moruya Cemetery alongside those of his father, sister, and eldest son, Joseph, who predeceased him some years ago. The funeral was a large one considering the short notice given, Mr. Ross having charge of same. Rev. Mr. Murray performed the last rites at the grave. Deceased leaves a widow and five sons, Henry, Manager of Bergalia Estate; Robert J., storekeeper, Bergalia; Matthew, Bank Manager, Delegate ; Reuben, Bank Manager, Queanbeyan ; and Frederick, Manager of his Lake View Estate ; also six daughters, viz., Mrs. James Duncan and Mrs. W. Irving (Eurobodalla), Sarah, Margaret, Charlotte and Janet (Lake View) ; to all of whom we extend our sincere and heartfelt sympathy. Deceased's age was 71 years.
