[General description] Head and shoulders portrait of Robert Barr Smith in seven eighths view. He was sole partner with Thomas Elder in the well known Adelaide firm Elder Smith & Co. and was director and shareholder of several pastoral, mining, Insurance companies and banks as well as the South Australian Company. He was an active philanthropist, giving large amounts to public institutions. He was greatly repected by all and is said to have refused a knighthood. - Subject: Barr Smith, Robert, 1824-1915
