The Cherokee Vann family is enormous, and enormously confusing. I am trying to sort out the various lines as much as possible. There are few early records, so pre-1800 relationships are often speculative and mixed-up on-line trees just add to the confusion I don't think there will ever be records to support these relationships 100%, but there are some documents which by extrapolation can support the connections.
I can’t find any document or documented tree listing this woman’s name as “Elizabeth.” Three widely-cited genealogists differ: James Hicks calls her ‘Sister of Raven,” John Strange says she was the sister of Raven with a given name of “Ailsey.” and Jerry Clark does not give any name for her. In the documents I have found to date she is only mentioned by her married name, or as the mother of her children. She apparently had children by three early white traders, Bernard Hughes, John Vann, and David Rowe, and may have had a Cherokee husband as well. I’d like to fix her name to reflect what is most commonly used to increase the chances that someone will find her and not create duplicates - Changing "Elizabeth" to “Sister of Raven” with "Ailsey" as an alternate name, retaining "Cherokee" as her LNAB - and list (or attach if they are in Wikitree) her documented children and husbands. Her last husband was Rowe.
