How do I remove anonymous from Donald Macdonald's last name [[Macdonald-9655]]

Question

I wrongly put Donald Macdonald's [[Macdonald-9655]] last name into the current last name as well as the birth name boxes. Now when I've taken it out of current last name he's become anonymous.
How do I fix this?

Moira,

If a name is entered in CLN and then removed, the system adds “Anonymous” by default and needs another name to replace it. 

If the LNAB (Mcdonald) and the CLN (name at time of death) are the same, simply add Mcdonald back into the CLN field again to replace the word “Anonymous”.

Moira, having fixed that, you probably need to review your spelling of LNAB across the family as you have a mix of Mcdonald, McDonald and Macdonald, even amongst siblings, and Donald’s Wiki ID is Mcdonald-9655, not  Macdonald-9655 as you display it in your question.

I think you deleted the current last name which caused Anonymous to automatically replace it.  I replaced it but you might want to make sure it's the spelling you desire.

It is very common to have mixed spellings of surnames in the same family.  Our family is MacDonald, cousins in Frankford Ontario are McDonald's.  When we came to Toronto in 1885 if you were  Mc you were considered a Catholic and therefore unemployable by the largely Orange population.  My great grandfather changed it to Mac to get a job and we've been Mac's ever since.
