2024 Poland Project Updates

Hello Wikitree!

If you are interested in knowing what we are doing around Wikitree, please take a look at our Poland Project Update Page.

Many of you have had either Tina or Skye categorize your ancestors by village.  Please note that we are conducting "sweeps" of Poland by region.  We ask that you please continue to add these categories to any new profiles you create.

Why categorize?  If you are transcribing records, this is a valuable tool to help you organize/find profiles with which you are working (especially if you wish to remove yourself as the profile manager, which is perfectly acceptable.)  It helps you to connect with others researching the same area for collaboration.  It may also help you to connect your own ancestors to existing profiles, but perhaps you have the surame written differently (not giving you a suggestion when creating the profile.)

As of now, former Russian Empire and Galician lands are completed. Village categories are only created for existing profiles. Please refer to the Poland Project Page for directions if you need a village category created.

If you are new to Wikitree, and are uploading a gedcom with a large amount of individuals, please feel free to reach out to a coordinator for help with categorization.

If you are interested in becoming a member of the Poland Project, please leave a message on our G2G Welcome thread.

We are always open to hearing suggestions on how we can better the project or other ways we can serve the Wikitree community.  Thank you!!

Skye, Tina and Maggie

Food for thought:  did you know the whole of Poland will fit inside the state of Texas without the borders touching?  Perspective!  Both filled with awesome people! :)

Perspective only. Poland v. Texas!

"As of now, former Russian Empire and Galician lands are completed". In addition, the former German Empire lands look complete to me. :)

Oh I wish!!  The Prussian side is more labor intensive for us, so it goes much slower.  Now we have better tools to find profiles and batch categorize them.
