Would you like to join a Global Country Project?

The newly revamped Global Project is now up and running. If you haven't checked out our YouTube introduction video with Sandy Patak and Betsy Ko, be sure to do so.

It is the goal of the Global Countries Project to provide resources to members for every country of the world and to provide gathering places for members who are interested in researching countries that don't normally get much attention from the genealogical community.

To do this, we need a whole bunch of project coordinators. If you are interested in helping this project develop, drop us a note below and let us know what country project you are interested in leading. You do not need experience and you do not need to have ancestry in that country, although both would be of benefit.

If you are not ready to lead but want to actively participate none-the-less, just say so in your post, as we have plenty of room for you as well. Just be sure to tell us which country you are interested in.

Note that you do not need to be a member of the Global Project to take advantage of this project. Our resources are open to everyone - even non-WikiTreeers.

Why are people being put into Project Leader position on some of these countries?  Most people volunteering could be considered Project Coordinators, but they are not Project Leaders, which is a different level in wikitree.  Having people that do not have Project Leader status makes it confusing to people that do not understand that designation.
Hi Linda. This was error that is being fixed as week speak. The country mangers are Coordinators not Leaders. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Thank you, David, as I had great concerns over this issue.

Hi David! I'm not sure why, but even though I thought I was part of the project, I'm not!! So please count me in, and I reaffirm my interest in becoming coordinator for Chile when it's available as an independent project from Latin America. Thanks!

I would like to join the Armenia project. I’m still fairly new to wiki tree but I can help.

My husband is Armenian and it seems there is very little information online about Armenian genealogy in general.

I have added you to the Armenia Team and have awarded you a Global Badge. The Armenia Project is still in its infancy and has lots of opportunity for growth. Please connect with our Armenia Team Coordinator, Staci Golladay, to discuss how you can best assist.

I would like to join I have extensive research to add to my family from Roeselare and surrounding areas. My great grandma and her mother came to the US in 1913 and I have lots of great sources to add.

The Belgium Project is up and running. I'll add you to the membership list and will award you a badge.

We don't currently have a Belgium Project leader (interested volunteers are welcome to contact me), but please feel free to reach out to your fellow team members to discuss research options and opportunities for further growing the project. We'd love for you to share whatever research information you have related to the Roeselare region and the story of your family.

Thank you, I will start adding everything I have. Once I get better at navigating Wikitree, I would like to become a Belgium Project Leader. I am a member of a few Belgian/Flemish Historical/Geneology Societies in the United States and network with several others who have families that immigrated from Belgium to the US. Recently I have been networking with distant family I have found on Belgium Facebook groups and think I can attract members to also join the project. More to come!

Both those areas have what is called top tier projects already. These projects are independent of the Global project and have different joining requirements.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Switzerland#How_To_Join and https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scotland would give you how to join and how to help those projects.

I hope this information helps you in learning about what is available for your areas of interest.
