USBH Weekend Sprint: Help us Create More Notable Profiles!

Welcome to US Black Heritage Project's weekend sprint!

For Black History Month, USBH has been featuring and honoring Black American notables. We'd like to honor even more people by creating profiles for them!

The weekend is over, but you can create more notable profiles any time you have a few extra minutes.

Goal: To create as many new Black American notable profiles as we can this weekend. The more the merrier!

Instructions:

  • Post an answer below and tell us you will be participating.
  • Go to the Notables Needs Creation Spreadsheet and chose someone to create. Each tab represents a different groupings of notables
  • Put your name in the "your WikiID" column on the line for the person you have chosen.
  • Be careful of duplicates. A few of these might have been created since they were added to the list.
  • Click on the Wikipedia article to read about them and create the profile. If there isn't enough information on the article to add a correct last name, or a birth date or location, please find additional sources. Please especially be careful with the women's names. Wikipedia isn't always clear about their maiden name.
  • Once you create the profile, add the new WikiID for the person's profile in that column on the spreadsheet.
  • Add {{US Black Heritage}} above the biography heading and {{Notables Sticker|African-American Notables}} below the biography heading. We do not add the African American sticker because it would be a duplicate of the US Black Heritage Project box placed above the bio heading.
  • Add the project as co-manager by using the email listed at the top of each spreadsheet tab. This is super important!
  • It's okay if this is as much as you do on each profile because simply getting the profiles created is the goal this weekend. If you want to add more sources and expand the bios, that's great too!
  • Note for living notables: There are special rules about living people on WikiTree which includes that you will only be able to stay on as profile manager if you are a member of USBH or Notables Projects or are a close family member (within 3 generations). Also, these profiles will show as unlisted for now, but as long as you have added USBH as co-manager, we will be able to open them for public viewing if they qualify.
  • If you don't see a notable on the spreadsheet who doesn't have a WT profile, create it! Please follow the same instructions, then add them to the spreadsheet with the new Wiki ID.
  • We will not be tracking individual scores, but you can keep track of your own contributions and comment on your post at the end of the weekend just for fun.
  • More notables are constantly being added to this spreadsheet, so if you love working on notables, come back often to see who has been added!
  • Have questions? Please ask.

Number of profiles created: 107 new profiles. Woo hoo! Amazing!

excellent idea! Just a heads up - could we have the same type of sprint for Notable Brits of Black Heritage? We have Black History Month in October smiley

That's a great idea! Are you a member of the England Project? If so, you could post the idea in their group. We could almost do one of these for a different country each month!

I was looking at it more from the Caribbean perspective so assumed it would be the Global Black Heritage project. (everyone was automatically British until the 60s when the British colonies became independent), so I don't think it fits with the England project.

And I like the monthly idea to focus on other countries - which is why the 15 Nations Global Tour is so brilliant!

Haha, I know right? It's funny how I find bits of free time when I really want it though. Thanks for your help!
