Wat de reden ook is dat je bij ons bent uitgekomen. Je bent van harte welkom.

Om je aan te sluiten bij het Netherlands project plaats je je antwoord onder dit bericht. Het is leuk als je daarin iets meer vertelt over je genealogische interesses. Er reageert altijd wel iemand die je de weg kan wijzen binnen WikiTree. Weet je nog niet zoveel over hoe WikiTree werkt, dan raden we je aan de volgende pagina’s te bekijken. My ancestor Johannes Engelsman, born 1864, immigrated from Friesland area in 1888 and became a Dutch Reform minister in the Midwest. He was married to Margaret Neinhuis, then Maikke Huizenga, both who died as a result of childbirth issues, then married Cornelia “Kate” Van der Waa, a first generation Dutch American. Johannes’ father Jakob was a painter in Uitheruizemeeden, Groningen.

I'm Jarvis-2158, look at my tree and my first wife is a Schuitema. My father-in-law was born in MusselKanaal, and lived in De Vetstukken, near Groningen. He, Jurjen, spoke Groens. He used to say that an ancestor of his was also a painter, Etsko Schuitema. I wonder if your ancestor, the painter, was part of the same 'group' of painters. Etsko was a still life painter (flowers in vases etc) as understand it. Perhaps there is a family connection somewhere as well? Rob Jarvis

I think they were house painters, not artists. Several of the Engelsman’s who emigrated over were listed in the US census as painters. Also their descendants.

Hello. I'm Rhyan Romaine (pronounced like "Ryan") and would love to join the Netherlands project. I have Dutch ancestry on both sides of my family including:

• Father's paternal side -  I am descended from Claes Jansen Romeyn, a New Netherlands settler
• Father's maternal side - my great-grandfather, Cornelius Buikema, emigrated from Groningen to New Jersey, USA in 1888
• Mother's paternal side - my great-grandmother, Jeanette Louise (Derricks) Wells, emigrated from Gelderland to New Jersey, USA in 1897

I know little about my Derricks/Dericks and Buikema sides and am most interested in learning more about those branches. Please let me know how I can be helpful!

Hi I would like to join the Netherlands Project, I am a first generation Canadian with Dutch parents, both from Noord Holland. So far I have been working on recreating my own tree and connecting up those I recognize as being on it, but I am coming up on the 1700s so I just got the tag for that. I would also like to join Team Noord Holland as most of my relatives are located there.

Ik ben in 1943 op het Eiland van Dordrecht geboren en woon daar nog steeds. De geschiedenis van de oudste stad van Holland boeit me, zo heb ik van veel inwoners van de Merwestad gegevens verzameld. Daar is het niet bij gebleven, ik maak ook regelmatig een genealogisch uitstapje naar andere delen van ons land.

Hello, my ancestry is almost completely Dutch, except some small portions pre 1800's German ancestry I'm 100% Dutch. On my fathers side one half comes from South-Holland and the other Utrecht. On my Mothers side mostly Noord-Holland and a little from the northern provinces. I'd join this project happily, since Dutch is the only real nationality I have in me.

Dag Eef

Samen met mijn broers werkte ik de stamboom van onze familie uit in MyHeritage. We zijn ver in de tijd terug kunnen gaan, maar wellicht niet altijd even zorgvuldig omgegaan met bronnen.

Het is nu mijn ambitie om onze stamboom persoon per persoon toe te voegen aan WikiTree, na het checken van de nodige bronnen. Dat is een flink werk, maar ik ga er rustig de tijd voor nemen.

Ik wil graag ook mee werken aan het project Nederland. Dank je wel alvast om me toe te voegen.

I would like to participate in the Dutch project. I have already found and added many of my ancestors on WikiTree. I would like to get in touch with (distant) relatives. My father's roots are in the province of Friesland, in the towns of Hallum and Oldeberkoop. The roots of my mother's side are in the province of Groningen, in the towns of Veendam and Scheemda.

My grt grandfather Laurens Teunis Kerkstra came from , Netherlands as did his ancestors, I have been researching the family tree. I followed his line back as far as I could with all the other family members, the one thing seems to be in common with the male line is that they were all seafaring people.

I would be interested in joining this project. I am a third generation born American that is an ancestor of the Netherlands, then called Holland (Noord-Brabant). My 2nd great-grandfather (Gerardus Wilhelmus Dijkhoff) emigrated his family, which included my great-grandfather (Franciscus Georgius Dijkhoff), on 12 May 1908.

I'm from Wisconsin, USA, and have been researching my family tree. All of my ancestors on both sides of my family are from the Netherlands. Most came to the US in the late 1800s. I've been researching through DNA to see if I can find a great-great-grandfather who was not identified on my great-grandfather's birth certificate. My great-grandfather was born in the Netherlands before his mother and her family came to the US.

Ik ben nooit lid geworden van het Dutch Roots project omdat ik dacht dat dat gericht was op Amerikanen die hun Nederlandse voorouders zochten. Ik ben Nederlander en voor zover ik weet zijn al mijn voorouders Nederlands. Ik heb al veel familie leden aan WikiTree toegevoegd. Ik begin vast te lopen op de tijd dat de burgerlijke stand is ingevoerd en ik vraag me af hoe ik betrouwbare bronnen kan vinden van voor 1800; ik heb namen van familie leden van voor 1800, maar (nog) geen bronnen. Vandaar dat ik het Nederlandse project weer eens bezocht. Ik ben pre-1700 self-certified.

Via Familysearch kan je bij de Catalogus, van vrijwel alle plaatsen de kerkboeken vinden van alle religies. Dat moet je helpen om verder terug in de tijd te komen.

Heel erg bedankt but de aanwijzing naar FamilySearch - ik zal daar gaan kijken.

Inmiddels heb ik ook het Nationaal Archief gevonden, ook een manier om doop, trouw en begrafenis gegevens van voor 1811 te vinden. https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/onderzoeken/zoekhulpen/doop-trouw-en-begraafboeken-van-zuid-holland-voor-1811

Wat ik me nu afvraag is of er een aanbeveling is hoe we het beste naar zulke bronnen kunnen verwijzen in wiktree profielen; het is niet zo makkelijk als naar Burgerlijke Stand gegevens van na 1811 te wijzen.

Kijk eens naar [[Van_der_Dussen-111|Jan van der Dussen (bef.1778-1837)]]. Ik vind dat ik een aardig goede verwijzing heb naar zijn overlijden, maar ik vaag me af of de bronverwijzing naar zijn doop goed genoeg is.

Is het goed genoeg om de betreffende text uit het Nationaal Archief in te typen (een beschrijving waar de doop gegevens te vinden zijn)?

Is een afbeelding van het stukje uit het Nationaal Archief nuttig/nodig?

Of moeten we nog verder gaan en het juiste stukje van het hand-geschreven doop boek zelf copieeren? (het handschrift is vaak moeilijk te ontcijferen)

Is er een goede manier om een link naar de betreffende stukje in het wikitree profiel te zetten?

Graag zit ik horen wat andere Nederlandse wikitree vrienden hier over te zeggen hebben.  Als het al ergens beschreven is, of als er al een andere discussie hierover in G2G is, geef mij dan een verwijzing.

Allereerst is het echt al super dat je de bronnen toevoegt, want dat is wel waar het allemaal om zou moeten draaien. Daarnaast is er een Netherlands Project waar je de vragen kan stellen. Zie ook allerlei gegevens op deze pagina: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Netherlands

En er zijn wat handige tools (apps) bij Wikitree die je kunt gebruiken om automatisch de sources te maken.

De software van WT is erg oud en vandaar dat alles net even wat minder makkelijk is dan in modernere tooling. Maar voor het maken van automatische goede bronvermelding van bijvoorbeeld WieWasWie is de WikiTree BEE app echt heel handig.

I have discovered several lines that lead back to the Netherlands.  My 10th great-grandfather, and first Young ancestor in America, had a patronymic surname and changed it to Young just before the government mandated dropping patronymics.  I believe he took his new surname from his English wife.
