The US Black Heritage Project is celebrating Black History Month by featuring a themed group of African-American Notables each week  in February.

This week's theme is Super Bowl Halftime Performers. Our featured performer is rapper and actor Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus, Jr, who will be taking the stage in the upcoming Super Bowl Halftime on Feb 13th. Snoop Dogg's  career was launched in 1992 when he was featured on a record released by Dr. Dre, who will also be performing at this year's Halftime!  Since then Snoop Dog has had incredible success in music, film and entertainment.  He was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018.

While you are getting your chips, dips and sips ready for the big game, check out Snoop Dogg's profile and these other famous African-Americans who entertained during past Halftimes.

All WikiTreers are invited to help improve these Notable profiles and expand their family. Some are still unconnected.  If you add a family member that is African-American, please add the {{African-American Sticker}} right below the ==Biography== line. If you add photos, please make sure there are no copyright restrictions on any you upload.

What an amazing group of stars! I had no idea Ella Fitzgerald had performed at Halftime! She's a very versatile lady!

Bruno Mars performed with the Red Hot CHili Peppers for the Superbowl in 2014 and crashed the party with Uptown Funk in 2016.

Bruno's connection is through Harry Hopkins, advisor to FDR. Bruno's maternal great grandmother was the sister-in-law of Harry's uncle.

Great info Mark, thanks!
Is Bruno Mars African-American?
Yes, from his grandfather's side. His ancestry is complex with Puerto Rican, Ukrainian/Jewish and Filipino/Spanish.
I see that it's a fascinating mix of cultures. Do you have a source for an African-American ancestor?

Shouldn’t he be listed as Calvin “Snoop Dogg” Broadus, Jr? He isn’t named after someone who was named Snoop Dogg, that is just his stage name.

Understand, and his profile contains his full given/legal names and other stage names he has used.  Just using "Snoop Dogg" here as that is what most people know him as. I'll add full name to one of the references in the post.
