California digital newspaper collection site has gone wonky...

Question

A few weeks ago someone kindly directed me to this resource (found at https://cdnc.ucr.edu/) and I have an ongoing search for any mention of my surname in California newspaper archives.

As of last night, the actual images of the newspaper pages are not visible; only the OCR transcripts (which of course are full of errors). I even went back and checked a link I had saved to an article that was visible when I found it, and it too is now invisible. Here is the link to the page, and below is what it now looks like. The yellow horizontal bar shows where the highlighted name Comings appears in the now-invisible article.

This is in the Firefox browser for Windows. I have also tried the links in the Chrome browser as well as Edge, and I get the same result. This leads me to believe the problem might be at their end... but who knows?

Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening? And how it can be fixed? Thanks.

I was the one who directed you - and I just checked the site. The images of the pages are not displaying. I don't know why.

And in related news, I'm finding absolute boatloads of people with my last name that I never knew existed, and so far, every single one of them is related to me somehow. Fifth cousins, that sort of thing. So thanks again for providing the link that is keeping me up way past my bedtime at night.... :D

UPDATE. I reported the problem to the site, and just got an email telling me that the campus data center had suffered a power outage last Friday that disabled their servers. They have been working to get them back online, with a goal of the end of the day today.

So no, we weren't imagining things. :)
