The Nantucket project is up and running!  If you descend from one of the original purchasers and are interested in helping to add and/or improve profiles, we would love to have you assist with the project.

The project page is located here:  Nantucket Founders project.  There are links to sources on the page to help research your Nantucket ancestors, as well as information on a sticker that can be placed on profiles of descendants.

You can go to this page to join the project.

This project is a sub-project of the United States project.  If you aren't a member of the U.S. project and would like the project badge, reply as an answer to this post and I will award the badge to you.

Great project. I'm not related.
Like Anne, I think this is a great focus for a project, and I am not related.  But I did visit Nantucket once, when I was about 12.
Thanks Anne and Ellen.  I'm glad to finally have it set up as a project.  I descend from many of the original Nantucket families through my maternal grandmother.  She left a note (she was the genealogist in the family) about being sad that she knew so little about her mother's family.  Fast forward a number of years, and I was able to locate a will while visiting the North Carolina State Archives that proved the Nantucket connection.  I hope my 'Mamaw' is looking down on me and smiling!

Great idea, Darlene. I don't think I have any direct lineage, but do have a few (descendant) collaterals somewhere. I'll add them as I find them.

I would like to join the project. I am a descendent of all the Nantucket founding families. The Coffins, Starbucks, Folgers, Starbucks, Gardners, Macys all intermarried. We carried the Folger name right up until my 4GGM, Mary Starbuck Folger. The “Great” Mary Coffin Starbuck is my 9th GGM.

Hi Gary, happy to have you.  You should go to this page and add yourself and your interests.  The project page has links to some recommended sources to use for profiles.

Like you, many of us that trace to Nantucket descend from numerous of the founding families due to their intermarriages.  We are fortunate to have some good sources available for the families, but we need people to work on adding the family members.

Hi Darlene, I would be interested in joining your project.  You & I have connected on many of these families and we seem to be working on many of the same ones.
Hey, Brad!  Glad to have you.  See note above.  If you aren't already part of the U.S. project and would like the badge, let me know and I can award it to you.
Thanks Darlene, I did see the link to the page & have now added my name to it.  And yes thank you, I would like the US Project badge.
Brad, you've now got the US project badge.  Thanks for joining and your interest in our Nantucket ancestors.
Excited to see and work on this project. I am a direct descendant of Tristram and Dionis Coffin (Coffyn) through James; Edward Starbuck and Catherine Reynolds through Nathaniel Starbuck and Mary Coffin; Thomas Macy and Sarah Hopcott through John Macy and Deborah Gardner; Richard Gardner and Sarah Shattuck through the above Deborah Gardner; and, I have DNA matches with the Barnards' and Swains'. I have Worth, Folger, and Bunker as direct ancestors (female).
Hi Eileen, happy to have you.  Your ancestral group sounds like mine, except that I also descend directly from the Barnards and Swains also (my great-grandmother was a Barnard).  I think, for many of us that trace back to Nantucket, that the bulk of us descend from a large portion of the families due to all of the inter-marriages.  Please add your name to the project member page as noted above.

I've awarded you the US project badge.
Hi Darlene, thank you. I see by our Relationship Finder that we are 8th cousins 1R by way of John Worth.
Great project. I'll work on getting connected. My ancestors are Swain, Long, and Starbuck with a connection to Coffin.

Hi Kristine, that's great.  Looks like we're connected through your Thurston line to Gorham, which traces back to the Mayflower.  smiley

Do you have a list of the original purchasers?  I'm descended from Macys (different branch from the store, but same common ancestor on Nantucket).

They're listed on the project page...

Hi Darlene, count me in. I'm a descendant of Thomas Macy, Tristram Coffin, and Edward and Nathaniel Starbuck among the original owners and partners, by way of my 5th great grandmother, Eunice Macy (Macy-312). I've made a number of contributions in this area already and am interested in adding more. Please add the US Project Badge for me as well, thanks.

Hello,

I am a direct descendent of both Tristram Coffin Sr and Edward Starbuck. They are both my 10th great-grandfathers via my maternal great-grandfather (James Jerome Simmons).  I'd love to help tag descendants from my own family.

Terri (Berube) Bartos

Terri, you're welcome to participate.  It would be great if, along with tagging family, you work on adding information,  including spouses and all of their children, etc. along with sources if they don't already have this.  Thanks.

I've awarded you the US project badge.  Please add your name to the project member page as noted above.

Yes, I would like to join the project. Most of my North Carolina ancestors on my mom's side were Nantucket Quakers.

I am excited to be part of the Nantucket Project.  I worked with another Wikitreer to set up a space page for The Coffin Family published by the Nantucket Historical Society in 1962. This book is available at Archive.org.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:The_Coffin_Family. I have started working my way through the people listed in the book adding the book as a source and including a link to the page in the book at Archive.org and the space page for the book.

So far there has already been a page already existing for everyone in the book.

Hi Richard, that's great news!  It's wonderful having you work on the Coffin family.  I've awarded you the U.S. project member badge.

Please add yourself to the project member page here:  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Nantucket_Project_Members

The project page is here.  I'm going to add the link to the spage page you mentioned on our project page.  Thanks.

Hope you link to this category https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Nantucket_Founders_and_Descendants I'm also a descendant of Tristram Coffyn.

I have been adding the "Descendant of Tristram Coffin Coffin-221" category to the descendants as I go.

< [[Category:Descendants of Tristram Coffin-221]] >

I should also mention that there are two separate books "The Coffin Family", each with its own space page.  I am using the 1962 edition of the book.

"The Coffin Family" published by The Nantucket Historical Association, Nantucket, Mass., 1962
https://archive.org/details/coffinfamilywith00coff

"The Coffin Family" published by The Nantucket Historical Association, Nantucket, Mass., 1881
https://archive.org/details/coffinfamilylife1881coff
The category page links to descendants as opposed to sources.  I'll add a spot on the project page for it. The space pages with links to the books are appreciated to help others research and source profiles.
Darlene, I understood that. But, it makes people aware of it, and lets them see the profiles that are associated with it. It also has the benefit of getting people to add it so it is more useful.

Agreed.  I added it earlier this morning.  wink
