Biography

Abner was born in 1708. He was the son of John Tyler and Annie Messenger. ^[1]

Abner married Hannah (Stevens) Tyler on 11 Feb 1741 ^{[2] [3]}

Abner and Hannah started their family in Boxford but relocated to Brookfield in early 1747. On 9 December 1746, Abner Tyler of Boxford purchased 90 acres in Brookfield at a place called Buck Hill from Daniel Barns of Marlborough for payment of £1,060.^[5] The area where the family resided was included in part of the second precinct of North Brookfield which was formed at the end of 1748. Abner was a founding member of the Second Church of Christ in Brookfield in 1752.^[6]

Abner is given as Lt. Abner Tyler on his death record and is also given on his gravestone and as a soldier in the Revolution. There was an Abner Tyler of Brookfield named as second lieutenant in the 4th Worcester Company of Massachusetts militia on 31 May 1776.^[7]

Abner Tyler wrote his will 29 September 1773. He made a bequest to his wife Hannah including provisions for her continued maintenance. His eldest son John received all the estate, personal, real, and moveable aside from what is given in other bequests. Sons Gideon, Moses, and Joshua are to receive £100 each when they are of legal age. Daughter Hannah received a token bequest of five shillings over and above what she has received and his three other daughters, Molly, Martha, and Abigail, received bequests of £33. Son John was named sole executor.^[8] Hannah Tyler did not leave a will; her estate entered probate 19 November 1789. The value of the estate after the deduction of administrative fees from the inventory value was about £48.^[9]
