Grace was baptised on 2 March 1834 in St Austell, Cornwall, England, the daughter of John Thomas (miner) and Margaret Smith residing in Tregonissey.[1]

In the 1841 census, Grace was living with her parents in Tywardreth, Cornwall, England.[2]

OBITUARY. [10]
An old resident of the California Gully and Eaglehawk district, in the person of Mrs. Grace Pillow, died yesterday at her daughter's residence, Bright-street, Eaglehawk. The deceased lady had reached the age of 71 years, and had been suffering for some time from an internal complaint. Her husband, the late Mr. Edwin Pillow, pre-deceased her some nine years ago. She was a native of Cornwall, and had resided in the Eaglehawk district for the past 37 years. She was a sister of Messrs. M. and R. Thomas, of California Gully, and Mesdames R. Williams, Stephens, Taylor and Ebbett. Four daughters are left to mourn their loss. The funeral will take place on Friday from the residence of her grandson, Mr. C. Pillow, of Caldwell's-road.
