Sarah was born in 1844 and baptised on 8 August 1844 in Tywardreath, Cornwall, England, the daughter of John Thomas (miner) and Margaret Smith residing in Killhalland Moor Tywardreath. [1] [2]

In the 1851 census, Sarah was living with her parents in St Blazey, Cornwall, England.[3]

Sarah travelled with her mother on the ship ‘Forest Rights’ which left Gravesend on 12 October 1864 and arrived on 9 January 1865 in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia[5] [6] Travelling together were:

  1. Margaret Thomas aged 57, married
  2. Eliza A Kemp aged 25 married
  3. Margaret Thomas aged 17, unmarried
  4. Sarah Thomas, aged 20, unmarried.

Sarah married James Taylor on 13 September 1866 in the Manse, Sandhurst, Victoria, Australia.

MARRIAGE. On the 13th instant, at the Manse, Sandhurst, by the Rev James Nish, Mr James Taylor to Sarah, fourth daughter of Mr John Thomas, California Gully.[7]

James predeceased Sarah in 1901.[8] Sarah died in 1920.

TAYLOR.—On April 25, 1920, at 55 Austin-street, Subiaco, Sarah, relict of the late James Taylor, of Bendigo; aged 76 years.[9]
TAYLOR.—The Friends of the late Mrs. Sarah Taylor, relict of the late James Taylor. late of Bendigo. Victotia. are respectfully informed that her remains will be, privately interred in the Methodist portion of thee Karamkata Cemetery, at 11.15 o'clock THIS (Tuesday) MORNING. DONALD J. CHIPPER and SON. Funeral Directors.[10]

Sarah was mentioned on a memorial in Karrakatta Cemetery and Crematorium, Karrakatta, Nedlands City, Western Australia, Australia with a death date of 25 April 1920.[11] Her headstone reads:

In Loving Memory of SARAH. Wife of James Taylor. Died 25th April 1920. Aged 76 years.
