Biography

Elijah was born in 1842. He is the son of Jesse McWhorter and Lucinda Benge. He passed away in 1933

He married Susan Deltha Parrett on 23 November 1859 in Jackson, Kentucky. Their children were Agnes Jane (McWhorter) Byrd (1860–1924), Mary Elizabeth (McWhorter) Buttery (1863–1912), Henry McWhorter (1867–1907), Martha McWhorter (1869–1913), Jesse Franklin Mcwhorter (1873–1960), James Pershing McWhorter (1875–1967), Nancy L. McWhorter (1878–1963), Sallie Margaret McWhorther (1879–1954) and Sophia Eva McWhorter (1882–1962).

This census tells us the names and ages of Jesse's wife and children. The birth dates of the children would indicate that if the first child is hers, Lucinda was only 15 years old when Nancy was born.

Jesse McWhorter, age 37, born in Kentucky, was a farmer in Clay County, Kentucky and owned real estate worth $500. Lucinda McWhorter was 28 years old, born in Kentucky, and was not able to read or write. All of the children were born in Kentucky: Nancy, age 13; Mary, age 11; Elijah, age 8; John, age 6; Henry, age 4; and William, age 1.^[1]
