Hey Jori! Did you know that you are fourth cousins five times removed from William Tecumseh Sherman?

Please continue to see changes and how we should display those links. The closed bracket goes at the end of the source and there needs to be a space between the link and the source within those brackets. Example: https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Smerling-5&diff=125575856&oldid=125526982

Hey Jori. I want to update you that my grandmother has autosomal DNA results from MyHeritage. We are currently trying to figure out how to get it off that site and onto here. I look forward to see how they compare. I also ordered a mitochondrial test for myself to discover my mother's side of the family, so that may not reach you as you connect to my paternal side but it's worth noting here.

This sounds very interesting! Can't wait to see the results.

Update: While I am still working on getting grandma's data up, I recently linked my own autosomal test from FTDNA. It may not connect us unless you've taken one from there; I see that yours is from 23 and Me.

Hi Jori

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz. As Pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, the further back you go the more likely a connection will be. Collaboration will be needed which is why working within a project is essential

Please ensure locations are entered on all profiles and data matches dates of profile. Avoid abbreviations, add sources with citations & links for sources to support the data. From wiki ID go to Research to find sources,  please review this page  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources

To learn more about joining the community in How To #3 & in the Project FAQ.

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

I am having such a hard time trying to figure out how to link the sources to the biography section. I think I'm putting the sources in the right place....under Sources, but do I need to link them to what's in the biography also? I LOVE this WikiTree! I am finding quite a bit of information about my family that most of my family doesn't even know about! Thank you

Hey Jori. If you need help with HTML, I can try to assist. The main thing is that the code is opened with a tag such as <ref> and closed with a subsequent tag </ref>. Note the forward slash used to close it. Any text inside these two tags will not appear in the main text, but will be sent to the part of the profile that uses the </references> tag (this is located in the Sources section). To have a reference repeat, you use <ref name> and the way it is activated is to create a field in quotation marks that identifies it as that particular reference, for example: <ref name="Death">Death record of John Smith</ref>. Once again the code is closed with a </ref>. What appears in Sources then is 1. Death record of John Smith. These are the most basic usages of HTML source code that I use on all the profiles that I edit. It works across most if not all wiki software on various wikis around the internet.

Hi! when you have time, could you look at my father's profile Merritt Donald Lyon (1933-2018) and "fix" it. I think I got it, but I'm not sure. Thank you soooo much.
posted by Jori Lyon
Within are the updates I made to Merritt. https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Lyon-6104&diff=125474313&oldid=125437544

You will notice that I changed the MM/DD/YYYY format to DD Month YYYY; that is because non Americans may flip the day and the month and it could be confusing in that other format.

Also when using external links, even without using ref tags, you want to create the open bracket ([) followed immediately by the hyperlink (URL) then a SPACE and then the description of the item you are linking to, and finally a closed bracket (]).

And finally for editing, and this might be nitpicky, I usually spell out the state or location rather than using the initials (WI --> Wisconsin). It just looks better and more professional.

Hope these help you with editing in the future!

Well hello, cousin. At least I assume so based on our shared second/third great grandparents the Klitzkes. You'll notice I spelled it differently. I'm afraid the articles you created for them may need to be merged to the ones that I have already created. Please refer to Klitzke-67 and Perleberg-10.

Thank you.....i am pretty new at this. i have seen that spelling, just wasnt sure which name to put.....sorry if i'm adding the wrong name and data.....hi, cousin!

No worries. Mistakes and conflicts are bound to happen. The good thing is now we have a single profile to refer to for each previously duplicated ancestor, something I really like about this wiki. So far you are the closest relative I have found on here.

Hi Jori

Thank you for adding your DNA Test information to your profile on WikiTree. Your information will be propagated to the profiles of your parents and your ancestors within about 24 hours of being added. It will also propagate to the profiles of the descendants of your ancestors, so they may see your information under the heading "DNA Connections" just as you can see theirs.

Getting started with DNA outlines how to proceed to use your DNA test information on WikiTree and DNA is a link to a collection of links about WikiTree's many features involving DNA.

The DNA Connections list on your profile will provide a visual way for you to find potential relatives on WikiTree who have also added their DNA test information. Using DNA tools at sites like GEDMatch.com, if you find a relative that matches your DNA sufficiently and you have genealogical sources for the intermediate relationships, you can mark the specific parental relationships back to the most recent ancestor that you both share as "confirmed with DNA." For details, guidance, and examples of how to properly document DNA confirmations, see DNA confirmation.

To get the best results, continue adding sourced profiles for your ancestors until you can connect to ancestors already in WikiTree. If you have exhausted what you know on one line, it can sometimes help to add what you know on another line. The more branches you are able to add the greater the likelihood of finding potential cousins to match with. The process of identifying which branch elements of DNA relate to will better enable you to find matches that relate to the particular branches you are researching.

Let me know if you have any questions and have fun!

Wendy ~ WikiTree Greeter

I am so confused!! so much to learn!

What is this Suggestion Status? I looked at the first one: 409 Marriage to duplicate person, but it's not a duplicate. at least not that i can see. could it be because i put the wrong person in, then changed it to the correct person? if so, what do i do with this? sorry for the crazy questions
