Biography
James (Don) Jenkins 1923 - 2010 James D. Jenkins, born in Duke, Missouri on February 1, 1923 to James and Mary Robbins Jenkins, passed away December 18, 2010. Don is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dollie; and siblings, Tom and Bonnie Jenkins. Don served in the U.S. Army during WWII, with active duty in Rhineland and Central Europe. After receiving an honorable discharge he returned to Rolla, MO. Don soon relocated his family to Bakersfield and found employment in the oil drilling industry working for Gary Drilling Co. as a Drilling Supt. for over 30 years, retiring in 1985. Don never retired from working at something and liked to keep his hands busy. He became a "Mr. Fix It" man, never leaving a job unfinished. Don and Gladys have been members of Columbus Street Baptist church since 1962. A Chapel service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 23, 10:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Mortuary, 3700 River Blvd. Reverend Dacus officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Columbus St. Baptist Church, 714 Columbus Street. www.bakersfield.com/obits Published in Bakersfield Californian on December 22, 2010
