Auckland Museums cenotaph records Arthur being in the Air Force in 1905. His father "Mr A.J. Hunter" was recorded as being his father.
Arthur was born on the 3rd of December 1911 in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand to Mary Constance and Arthur John. [1]
In 1934, Arthur left for London England via Brisbane, Australia for his work as an engineer in the New Zealand Air Force [2]
In 1935, Arthur was registered to vote and living at the Air Base in Auckland, New Zealand.[3]
On the 3rd of September 1940, Arthur was promoted to being a Flight Lieutenant [4][5]
AIR CASUALTIES
Flight Lieutenant Arthur Vicary Hunter, missing on aii operations. Next-of-kin: Mr. A. J. Hunter, 35 Young Street, Somerfleld, Christchurch (father). Flight Lieutenant Hunter enlisted, in the N.Z. Permanent Air Force as an aircraft apprentice in 1929 and was discharged at his own request in 1934, when he left for England to take up service with the R.A.F. He was mentioned in dispatches on February 20, 1940. He was born at Christchurch and was educated at the Christchurch Technical School.[6].
On the 12th of February 1941, Arthur was captured by the Germans at Bay of Biscay. [7]. The same record mentions that at the time that he was captured he was injured and recieved care before being moved around to various camps in Germany and Poland. He was released sometime in 1945.
In 1981, he was living at 33 Harvey Street in Tauranga, Bay of Plenty [8]
Arthur died in New Zealand on the 3rd of April 2005 [1][9], and was cremated at Pyes Pa, in Tauranga.
"Mr Arthur Vicary Hunter, known as Vic, was a well respected member of the community who belonged to the Freemasons, the Lions Club, The Tauranga Club, Tauranga Officer's Club and Tauranga Swimming Club. On the outbreak of WWII he enlisted in the RAF. After the war Vic worked as a motor industry insurance assessor. Covered the area from Waihi to Ōpōtiki."[10].
