He married Frances Valeria "Lee" Hays,(Hays-2777) a daughter of John Elliot and Henrietta Frances Lewis Hays, August 11 1870. She was born October 31, 1848 and died December 7 1922 in Gilmer County, WV. She is buried in Berry (Dry Run) Cemetery, in Gilmer County, WV. At findagrave.com her memorial is #107397068.
"She was one of ten children of John Elliot and
Frances (Lewis) Hays. From treasured original manuscripts,
letters, and family documents, we know that she and her
sisters were well educated and forward thinking women of
their day. "Lee," as Valeria was called, wrote stories, poems,
literary criticisms, and essays; many of which were published
in the magazines of the time. She wrote for (a)creative outlet,
to supplement the family income, and we are told to avoid
housework, which she abhorred."
