Grace was born on July 26, 1937, in a log cabin in the community of Rush Tower,Plattin Township, Jefferson County, Missouri. She was the fourth child of Phil and Nellie (Bailey) Harman. In 1941 or 42, the Harman family moved to St. Louis, Missouri where both her mother and father worked in factories that made products for World War II. When the war ended in 1945, the family moved back to Rush Tower. Grace attended the Rush Tower School, a one-room schoolhouse that is presently (2022) in use as a community center. She then attended and graduated, May 1955, from Festus High School, in Festus, Missouri. Her mother, Nellie Harman, was very active in the Danby Methodist Church and often invited the young people of the church organizations to spend Sunday afternoons at the Harman home. This is where Grace met and later married, Richard Nugent. They were married on June 11, 1955, at the Danby Methodist Church, Danby, Missouri. Richard had served in the “Korean Conflict” and wanted to take advantage of the GI bill that helped pay for a college education, and so they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin for Richard to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering. All three of their children were born in Milwaukee. They continued living in the Milwaukee area until 1965, when Richard was offered a job in Springfield, Illinois. However, they returned to Wisconsin about three years later and lived on Edgewater Drive, Grafton, Wisconsin until 1990, when they retired in Crawford, Colorado. Richard had traveled over most of the US on business, with occasional trips to Canada and Mexico. After they retired, his former company ask him to travel to China as their representative and chief engineer on a project in Kunming, Yunnan Prefecture, China. On his second trip to China, Grace accompanied him, and both being enthralled with China, they wanted to teach English there. To do so, they needed a bachelor’s degree, and at ages 62 and 67, they enrolled in and graduated from Western State College, Gunnison. Colorado. They then pursued their dream and taught at the Wu Jie International School in Kunming, China. In 2003, they retired again and moved first to Phuket, Thailand and then to Koh Yao Noi, an island near Phuket. Richard died of cancer in 2006 but Grace continued to live on the island until 2013 when she moved, with her present husband Tairat Sittadachanon, to Ban Pong, Ratchaburi, Thailand.
