There are three named Sylvanus Ames at Wikitree if you want to go to Find at the top right of this page and enter the first and last name. Two were from Bridgewater, Plymouth, MA.

Just a guess, but looks like he might have been a grandson of Sylvanus Ames, Revo War corporal.  http://services.dar.org/Public/DAR_Research/search_adb/?action=full&p_id=A002268

Is this the 1850 census for your Sylvanus and Sally?  "United States Census, 1850," database with images, FamilySearch(https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MC19-JX3 : 12 April 2016), Sylvenus Ames, Barre, Orleans, New York, United States; citing family 1879, NARA microfilm publication M432 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

These records are way questionable/bad, but you might get some hints from these old Rootsweb records.  https://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=Search&includedb=&lang=en&ti=&surname=Ames&stype=Exact&given=Sylvanus&bplace=&byear=&brange=0&dplace=&dyear=&drange=0&mplace=&myear=&mrange=0&father=&mother=&spouse=Sally&skipdb=&period=All&submit.x=Search

The problem is they try to say his father was the Revo War vet who died 1778.  That can't be right if he was b 1792.  Could be his son Sylvanus Ames-1319 was the father, if he married Mary Ward before he married Nabby Lee Johnson.  More research needed.
This is the correct family.  I believe the senior Sylvanus Ames married Mary Ward and then Huldah Johnson?  The Rootsweb site and links show the elder Sylvanus with 1744-

https://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:3227371&id=I16281

They mention the Ohio Sylvanus Ames.  My Sylvanus Ames moved from New Bedford, MA to Albion, NY to the Dane County, Wisconsin area to farm.

I will keep looking!

Thanks,

Mary Ames St. John

Right, but the Revo war vet bc 1744, died in 1778, so the Rootsweb records appear to be missing a generation.  Take those records as hints, but fatally flawed.  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Ames-1409

Hi Mary. Since this profile doesn't have any verifiable documentation, I wonder about the info that is here.

What I can find is a Sylvanus Ames of Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts who marries an Abigail Johnson 7 Sep 1795. Perhaps the parents and the 1792 birth year for a son Sylvanus is slightly off?

Name Sylvanus AMES
Marriage 1795
Location Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States
Original Text Sylvanus [int. Silvanus] and Abigail Johnson, Sept. 7,1795.
Town Info Bridgewater
Volume Name Bridgewater - V2

Subscription: Massachusetts: Vital Records, 1621-1850 (Online Database: AmericanAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2001-2016). https://www.americanancestors.org/DB190/rd/7667/34/143176228  Note the same info is seen in another set of Massachusetts Vital Records.

The above Sylvanus also appears (without name of spouse) in tax rolls for 1798 in Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts. Likely the same person as there do not appear to be any others of the same name.

Name Silvanus AMES
Tax 1798
Location Bridgewater, Plymouth, Massachusetts, United States
Original Text
Volume Name V.12

What may be the son Sylvanus (listed as "Marshfield Labourer") appears in 1754 'small claims' court action for what appears to be theft of firewood. Fined 8 pounds.

I see the name Sylvanus again in New Bedford (where I note the daughter linked from the profile is said to be born) but that reference is in well into the 1800s.
Hope this helps a little.

Thanks!  I went to the sites you shared that I could access.  There are a lot of Sylvanus Ames and dates don't align.  There were multiple marriages.  My cousin thought maybe our Sylvanus may have been illegitimate.  I have a Sylvanus Ames b. 1792 in Bridgewater, MA marrying Sally Pope b. 1784.  These are documented as is her family tree.  The connections to other Sylvanus Ames seem to have a generation missing going to a Sylvanus Ames who was the reverend in the Revolutionary War.  One Sylvanus Ames and family move to Ohio and becomes a sheriff.  My family moved from Barre, Orleans, NY to Dane County, Wisconsin from New Bedford.    Thanks for all of your help!

Mary, if you have the primary source documentation for a Sylvanus Ames b in Bridgewater in 1792 who marries a Sally Pope, do add that primary source documentation to the profile as it may help others with the profile and what you are looking for. In my brief search I found no primary source documentation on them, just user submitted information.
