Providing sources doesn’t seem to be enough, should I start creating new profiles?

Maybe you should consider adding the source images and transcriptions to the profile of Smit-4232

All I see on the profile is Barend was born in 1791. He passed away in 1844 Unsourced Family tree. Links to other trees are not proof of a relationship. We expect researchers to provide more than copies of other peoples research. Upload the source images to the profile and transcribe the core facts. So many online resources has disappeared from the internet that the  provision of just a link is not considered proof.

Whenever dealing with a project protected profile I recommend starting with the project. Nice job of adding the https://www.wikitree.com/genealogists/DUTCH_CAPE_COLONY tag that 88 genealogists are following.

Okay, thank you. I'll give it a few more days.
I see your request was posted 2 days ago.  Best of luck... I would check back after a reasonable time has elapsed.  Everyone is a volunteer.
What is considered a reasonable time? I personally respond fairly quickly to emails received. Also the profile is part of Cape of Good Hope project and also has 2 other profile managers. Other requests made the same day was already approved yesterday and I thought I'd just ask the G2G community for some advise.
I would think in few weeks, not days. Not everyone has the time to check into Wikitree every day.
thanks .. why give links to a website that is only open to people who become a member, after giving up all their private information including email and phone number?

I have more confidence in Wikitree, as it seems more like a real open commons effort.  However, also Wikitree is still owned by a private company, and it should really move to a clearly shared common ownership like for wikipedia/wikimedia.

I think so. Asking someone else to do it can be problematic in so many ways. For instance I do not have, nor intend to have, an account at Family Search so those sources are useless to me: I can't see them so I will not use them, you can see them so creating the profile is appropriate.

a.k.a

Parish registers for the Dutch Reformed Church at Tulbagh, Cape Province Baptisms 1815-1841, 1770-1811

Is the best of the reasons to believe IMHO.
Thanks for the response, I'm thinking the same thing. They can always send me a merge request.

I've found a profile from Cape of Good Hope Project which they merged with an existing profile and then they removed a child because no source was referenced except that of the original profile creator, I then later found sources and provided evidence that the child shouldn't have been removed. I'm also waiting for a response on that profile.

Currently the father has a DOD about Oct 1791 and the son's membership registration or is it baptismal shows 24 Dec 1791. The closest sibling is shown as DOB 1785.  Sources are what make me believe without them I could be on one of those sites that charge me for unsourced multiple family trees.  Good Luck on improving the tree we all share here!

Do NOT deliberately create duplicate profiles and then expect as merge.
creating the profile is appropriate.

Creating duplicate profiles is never appropriate.

Yes the fathers DOD is about 21 Oct 1791, and yes the baptism shows 24 Dec 1791. However, the DOB was listed as 1 Jul 1791 which is 8 months after his death and within 38 weeks gestation making him the viable father. I also didn't create the sons profile and my familytree happens to corroborate the familytree of the profile creator.

Also as far as I'm aware Baptismal records written by the Priest/Pastor listing him as the father is considered a "source", lastly Baptism date and Date of Birth are two very different dates. I personally was baptised as a 1 year old and have a sibling that is 12 years my junior so opinion is irrelevant in regard to siblings.

Melanie as you can see for yourself there is already a deliberation on paternity even with sources, so is it fair for some to hold familytrees randsom because of a disagreement in sources provided? Who is the authority on the ancestor?
Another's piece of information I discovered whilst checking the profile of the father was under Marriage it mentions the following "word as oorlede gemeld in seun Barend Frederik SMIT se boedel dokumente" which is Afrikaans and loosely translates to "is listed as deceased in son Barend Frederik SMIT's estate documents" guess ontop of all the resources provided the profile already states that he had a son I'm merely trying to connect him to his father.

Welcome! Your enthusiasm is refreshing but relax. You contributed good sources and left notes. In a PPP situation, I would wait, and wait some more. The goal is one profile per person. Period. I'm still learning the virtues of patience and WikiTree is yet another lesson in the learning process. Collaboration is a two-sided sword.

Thank you K, guess I'm a bit impatient. It's just that I've got so much information that needs to be connected its really difficult keeping an eye on someting whilst continuing with a different branch. I just don't want to lose momentum however I do get where you're coming from.

Sorry everyone.
you're not as impatient as you are highly motivated. stay motivated, new discovers can happen daily, enjoy.-kevin

Hi Kleinjan

Done

Also added the baptismal record  to the child's profile but did not have the time to do the transcript. Only FS narrative

All is well, that ends well!
