Gōgen Yamaguchi was a Japanese martial artist. He founded the International Karate-dō Gōjū Kai Association.
He practiced the Gōjū-ryū style of martial arts. He reached the rank of 10th dan.
In 1968, the Emperor of Japan decorated him with the Ranjū-Hōshō, らんじゅほうしょう(藍綬褒章), for his enormous contribution the the worldwide spread of the Japanese martial arts.
His parents names were Tokutarō (his father) and Yoshimatsu (his mother). His birth name was Jitsumi Yamaguchi (山口實実). He was the 3rd son born to them. Tokutarō and Yoshimatsu had 10 children in total.
He married twice, firstly to Midori (maiden name unknown), with whom he had four children:
His second wife was named Mitsue. They had one child, Wakako Yamaguchi (karate name Gōkyōko).
All of his children practiced karate-dō and became masters in their own right.
