Biography

TARAS MIKHAILOVICH KRAVCHENKO, * 25.ii.1811, Black Sea Cossack Army region, educated at the Temriuk parish church school, entered service as a clerk in the Black Sea Cossack Army chancellery, 1.i.1825; Uriadnik, 6.xii.1830; Khorunzhi for his distinguished service in action against the mountaineers, 17.xi.1842, with seniority from 26.vii.1841; appointed head of the 2nd desk of the economy department for the Black Sea Cossack Army, 1.xii.1842, and continued in this post until 18.iv.1847; Sotnik, 12.viii.1844; supervisor of the Ekaterinodar provisions magazine, 13.vii.1847-13.xi.1852; appointed to service in the 8th Cavalry Regiment, 5.xii.1852; transferred to the 11th Cavalry Regiment, 14.v.1853; according to his own wish, appointed clerk in the Schools Management of the Kuban region, 30.iv.1854; Esaul, 24.iii.1858; awarded the Order of St. George for fifteen years of irreproachable service, 22.iii.1860; Schools Management bookkeeper from 23.iv.1862; granted a 300 ruble pension from the economy sum of the Kuban Army secondary school for his diligent service, 29.vii.1863; awarded the Order of St. Stanislaw 3rd Class, 2.iii.1866; awarded the Order of St. Vladimir 4th Class, for twenty-five years of service, 22.ix.1869; awarded the Order of St. Anne 3rd Class, 2.xii.1869.

Taras Mikhailovich owned two wooden houses with stone foundations by 19.v.1870, one in Ekaterinodar and one in Eysk. Previously he had married OLGA VLASIEVNA PALAZHCHENKO, the daughter of junior officer Vlas Palazhchenko (see Palazhchenko). On 9.iv.1871 the Stavropol Provincial Noble Assembly examined the case of his registration of noble status, making a positive decision, on 20.v.1871 the relevant documents were sent to the Senate for a final decision, and on 21.ix.1871 Ukase 3795 was issued, entering Taras Mikhailovich and his children in part two of the Noble Register (i.e., nobility acquired through military service).
