I was born in 1942 in Indianapolis, IN to a Slovenian father and Scots Irish and German mother. My wife was born in 1945, rural Indiana and her family roots go back to colonial America. I became interested in genealogical research some 20 years ago. My special genealogical interests are Slovenia and pre-19th century America. I now do freelance Genealogical Research for friends and family, mostly as an excuse to travel. I am a member of several Genealogical/Historical organizations including SGSI, NGS, NEHGS, Local societies in PA, OH, NC, VA, NJ, IN and the Godfrey Library. I completed the online Genealogical Orientation Course at Boston University in 2022.

Thank you for your Welcome message. I fam having a difficult time figuring out how this site is organized. I discovered, after many attempts that I could not "paste" a question into the question form, I had to type it in. I l feel very disorganized and not sure what I am supposed to do. I uploaded my GEDCOM and today, received a 9-page list of, apparently, suggested inaccuracies or incomplete entries. I joined Wikitree because I am interested in finding accurate and documented sources for a lot of data I have gotten from Ancestry and other equally error-ridden sites. I am primarily interested in direct-line ancestors of my line and that of my late wife. I do occasionally include indirect ancestors when I think it will clarify why I put a particular person in my tree or when it is a branch that remained very close to either of our family lines.

Hello Michael,

The GEDCOMpare process compares your family profiles from your tree on another site and allows you to check to see if they already exist on Wikitree.

Hi, Michael!

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.

Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.

Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.

Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
