Biography

Edna Elizabeth Young was born at Livermore, Maine, the daughter of Orville Young and Eliza (Foye) (Paine) Young. The Livermore vital records show the birth date of Edna E. Young as 18 Feb 1856, but that entry was not made until July 1867.^[1] In the Civil War widow's application file of Eliza Young, a notiarized certification by a Laura A. Hobbs states that "I was present at the confinement of Eliza M. Young and a witness of the birth of her daughter named Edna Eliza Yound Feb. 18th 1857."^[2] Eliza's parents did not marry until 17 Apr 1856,^[3] so the 1857 date is the more likely one.
