Biographical notes on Find A Grave Memorial# 72179968 indicates Martha is the daughter of Captain George Yates (1727 - 1777), and that her mother was Frances Fielding Lewis (1731 - 1777). This has not been verified. Martha is not listed as daughter of George and Frances in the following sources:[1]
However the DAR information shows that a Martha YEATESprobably born in Cape May, New Jersey was the spouse of David Hand of New Jersey. It would seem logical that perhaps Martha Yeates may not be the daughter of Captain George YATES IV of Virginia given the facts of these two individuals have (1) a different spelling of their surnames, (2) the children Captain George Yates listed on the DAR data base are born in Virginia.
