Argoll was born in 1619. Argoll Yeardly ... He passed away about 1682. [1]

Argall Yeardley,[2] son of George Yeardley and Temperance Flowerdew, was born about 1621 (age 4 in 1625) in in James City, Virginia Colony.[3] Argall is listed with his parents on the List of the Living in Virginia in James Citty on the census of 16 February 1623/24; and again on the Muster of Sr. George Yearley Kt. as of January 1624/25:

  • Sr George Yearlley Kt, came in the Deliverance 1609
  • Temperance Lady Yearlley, came in the Faulcon 1608
  • Mr. Argall Yearlley aged 4 yeare
  • Mr Francis Yearlley aged 1 yeare
  • M's Elizabeth Yearlley aged 6 yeres (Children borne heare)

Argall Yeardley was appointed to the Virginia Council in 1639[4] and served until 1655. (Note: Jamestowne Society List of Qualifying Ancestors states Argoll Yeardley was Burgess for Lower Norfolk County in 1653, this is incorrect. It was his brother Francis Yeardley who served as Burgess.)[5]

Research notes

This note found on the profile of Sir Samuel Argall may hint at an interesting possibility for the identity of Argall's first wife

There is a tree on Rootsweb stating he married Sarah MICHAEL YEARDLEY in Virginia; Sarah is shown as the daughter of John MICHAEL and Elizabeth THOROWGOOD. However this might be a confusion with a Captain Argall Yeardley.

Some credibility is given by the fact that Argall Yeardley's sister Elizabeth is said to have married a Thorowgood, who would presumably be a cousin of the said Sarah.

From Martha W. McCartney, Virginia Immigrants and Adventurers, 1607-1635: A Biographical Dictionary, p 775:

"Argoll (Argall) Yeardly (Yardley), the eldest son of Sir George and Lady Temperance Flowerdew Yeardly, was born in Virginia around 1620 and on February 16, 1624, was residing in Jamestown (1) with his parents and sister, Elizabeth, and the family's servants. The Yeardleys were still in Jamestown on January 24, 1625, at which time Argoll was age 4. Argoll Yeardly and his siblings lost their father in November 1627; their mother, who remarried in late March 1628, died the following December. Argoll, as the eldest son, stood to inherit a third of his late father's estate, the bulk of which was in the hands of his uncle, Ralph Yeardly. From 1639 to 1655 Argoll Yeardley served on the Council of State, and in 1642 he became a commissioner of the Accomack Court. In 1649, while on a trip to the Netherlands, he met and married Ann Custis, his second wife, and brought her to Virginia. The Yeardley couple lived on the Eastern Shore in Northampton County, as did his politically powerful brother-in-law, Colonel John Custis of Arlington. Argoll Yeardley's household resided in Old Town Neck, where he patented 2,000 acres. He died sometime prior to October 29, 1655 (CBE 38, 54; MEY 726-728; PB 1 Pt. 2:595; FOR 3:10:49; Lower Norfolk County Book A:59; AMES 2:passim)."

Yeardley-13 and Yeardly-5 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles represent the same Argall Yeardley. Please merge this orphaned profile with no sources. Proposed merge of son Argall also proposed. Thanks ~Honi
