Biography

Francis Yates was born about 1619 in England. He is mentioned in records of Hempstead, Long Island (New Netherland) from 1658 and 1667. In 1682 he was recorded at Westchester, New York.^[1]

He made his will on 29 November 1682, naming children Mary, John, Dina, Jonathan, Dorothy. ^[1]

Francis Yates, Westchester." I will and bequeath to Mr. Wm Richardson my 5 children, Mary, John, Dinah, Jonathan and Dorothy, for him to keep soe many as he shall think fit, the rest to be put out to whom he shall think best. Provided that none of them be put out to any of my own kindred, nor any kindred of my wife." Witnesses. Ed. Waters John Jennings Nov. 29, 1682. Proved Dec. 18, 1682. Liber i. P. 454. ^[2]

He died at Westchester on 8 December 1682.^[1]
