William was bound as an apprentice sometime soon after 1558[1]
“Yate This yere Red in Wyllyam Yatt [and struck through] as A sop maker & prentys to [hy struck through] hyt & to chanlyng”
William married Margaret Bitfield and both he and Margaret were named in the 1591 will of her father William. [2] A son William was also mentioned.
William was a soapmaker and chandler and was already married to his wife Margaret on the 28th February 1561 when he took his first recorded apprentice Andrew Yate (who’s father was recorded as being Edward from Watchett in Somerset). [3].
William was an alderman of the City of Bristol. [4] At the time he wrote his will he was living in the parish of Christ Church, Bristol. [5]He made bequests to:
He died in Nov 1603 and was buried at Christ Church, Bristol on 21 Nov 1603. [7]
His will was probated on 18 May 1604.
