Biography

Ebenezer was born February 22, 1700 or 1701. He was the son of Abel Wright and Rebecca Terry.[1]

Ebenezer Wright was born about 1700. Ebenezer married first, Elizabeth Newcomb on April 20, 1721 at Windham, Connecticut.[2] He married second, Sarah Huntington on 28 March 1728 at Windham.[3] He married third, Mary (Mason) Huntington on 15 February 1776 at Mansfield, Connecticut, widow of David Huntington, brother of his second wife Sarah.

He was a farmer and a large landowner as was his father before him. He removed to Mansfield about 1740 and became a Baptist as did several of his children. His last will dated 2 December 1768 at Mansfield names all eleven of his children, and names his wife Sarah and his son Amaziah Wright the executors of his estate.

Ebenezer's children included:

  1. Zerviah Wright, daughter of Elizabeth, born 12 Mar 1722 at Windham; married John Upton at Windham 8 Jan 1740/41.[4][5]
  2. Deborah, daughter of Elizabeth, born 29 Jan 1724/25 at Windham.[6]
  3. Ebenezer, son of Elizabeth, born 2 Jan 1726/27 at Windham.[7]
  4. Eliphalet, son of Sarah, born 27 Feb 1728/29 at Windham.[8]
  5. Elizabeth, daughter of Sarah, born 30 Nov 1730 at Windham.[9]
  6. Sarah, daughter of Sarah, born 22 Sep 1732 at Windham.[10]
  7. Elisha, son of Sarah, born 26 Sep 1734 at Windham.[11]
  8. Mary, daughter of Sarah, born 15 Jan 1736/37 at Windham; died there 27 Jul 1739.[12]
  9. Amaziah, son of Sarah, born 11 Feb 1738/39 at Windham.[13]

Untriangulated DNA Match

Researcher Randolph-1145 has identified autosomal DNA segments which may have passed from Abel his son Ebenezer and from Ebenezer to his son of the same name Ebenezer II: Thomas Fitz Randolph (GEDmatch kit M011134) and Angela Nakashima (23andme) share 2 segments on their chromosome 15:

  • 53,688,494-62,306,387, 15.25 cM, 2062 SNPs
  • 62,649,219-71,011,391, 5.94 cM, 1283 SNPs.

23andme DNA comparison tool, 27 Nov 2015. MRCAs have been tentatively identified as Abel Wright (1631-1725) and Martha Kitchell.

Ebenezer was born before 1751. 1751 was the marriage date of his daughter Elizabeth so his actual birth date is more likely circa 1700.

Ebenezer was born in 1700. He passed away in 1786.

Elizabeth Newcomb shows up as a spouse for Ebenezer Wright and Samuel Wright III, both sons of Ensign Abel Wright and Rebecca Terry. Her three children listed above as Ebenezer's children also are listed as Samuel Wright III's children: Zerviah, Deborah, and Ebenezer.

There are problems with the three youngest children listed for Ebenezer. There are two sons Elisha Wright, so the youngest one must not have been his son.

Eleazar who m 1765 to Anna Marsh may not have been his son, but the son of Samuel and Anna (Loomis). The date of death from the probated will implies the Eleazar with wife Anna Marsh died in 1815. One Eleazar s/o Samuel was born in 1739 and one b. 1741, supposedly the s/o Ebenezer, who was probably the one who died in 1825.

i thinks there more issues with this profile than the two sons. There seem to be confusion between the different Ebenezers also. Not sure about where to begin to fix it. It has to be someone with more knowledge of the Wright line than me.

thanks Barry

Wright-28924 and Wright-4017 appear to represent the same person because: Wright-28924 is an unconnected file that needs to be merged with Wright-4017 using the data and connections of the earlier profile. I Will be requesting a merge of one of his wives Sarah for the same reason.
