Biography

Peter Wright migrated from Scotland to New Zealand.

Peter was born in 1850. He was the son of John Wright and Helen Mitchell.

14 year old Peter (occupation baker) emigrated with his parents and siblings from Scotland to New Zealand on the ship Helenslee in 1864 under Captain Brown. They sailed from Glasgow on 10 September 1864 and arrived into Auckland on 23 December 1864^[1][2]. They came to New Zealand under the Waikato Immigration Scheme, which was part of an attempt by the New Zealand government to bring large numbers of immigrants to settle the area south of Auckland (present day Franklin).

In 1883, now in New Zealand, Peter married Harriett Pope (the daughter of Thomas Pope.

They went on to have at least 10 children.

Peter was a Farmer in Pokeno.

He passed away on 24 October 1910 and was buried at Pokeno Public Cemetery, Pokeno, Auckland, New Zealand^[3].
