Biography

Jonathan Wright was born in 1635.

Sarah Saitley married Jonathan Wright , perhaps not long after Jonathan and his father arrived in Flushing about 1657.

Jonathan and Sarah had many children between their marriage and Jonathan's death in 1698. Records of birth dates have been found or calculated for only a few. Assuming that common sequence of a birth every two years, and that the sequence of sons in their wills was in birth order, and pretending for the moment that all the boys came before all the girls, perhaps they had:

  • John, b. 1668?
  • Charles,b. 1670?
  • Job, b. 1672?
  • Jonathan Jr. b. 1674
  • David, b. 1676?
  • Samuel, b 1678?
  • Richard, b. 1680?
  • Henry, b. 1682?
  • George, b. 1684?
  • Maritiye, b. 1686?
  • Elizabeth, b. 1688?, married George Wood,
  • Sarah, b. 1690?, married Jacob Griffin,
  • Hannah, b. 1694?
  • Mary, 1696?
  • Niantijie/Nancy, b. 1698

Jonathan and Sarah Wright sold land in the so-called great valley of Newtown, (the name then of what is now the northwestern part of Queens County, New York) on September 5, 1696 to Thomas Betts.[1]

Jonathan and Sarah baptized their sons David Wright + Richard Wright in the Collegiate Church, Manhattan on 12 Dec 1694.[2]

Jonathan died in 1698, his will dated 5 November 1698 having been proved that same year. [3] His widow Sarah lived on until at least 19 January 1724-5, when she signed her (never recorded) will [4]
